Editorial The main objective of this relatively brief newsletter is to inform members of a number of NDOA events coming up in the next few months. Firstly, there is the celebrity concert by the duo Graham Howell and Gareth Price at St Nicolas Church on Saturday 29th June at 7.30 pm. This recital launches the St Nicolas Newbury Organ Fund and we hope you will give it your strongest support. Then there is the Railway Garden Visit and Barbecue on September 7th and later the NDOA dinner on November 20th; dates to put in your diary. Meanwhile, we have the regular Thursday lunch- time recital series to look forward to.Celebrity Concert Saturday 29th June, 7.30 pm St Nicolas Church Graham Howell and Gareth Price began their musical careers as choristers, Graham at Westminster Abbey and Gareth at St Asaph Cathedral. They have been performing organ duets since 1985 when they were both organ scholars at Durham University. Their concert will include duet are- arrangements of deservedly popular orchestral pieces by composers such as Souza, Wagner and Grieg. This promises to be an evening of exciting organ playing, not to be missed. Tickets are £8 (Senior Citizens and Students £5), including wine or soft drink, and are avail- able from the Com Exchange Box Office or at the door on the evening.Garden Railway Visit-Barbecue Saturday 7th September Following last year's successful event, David and Christine Reynolds are again offering a social 'steam-up' in their garden, (indoors if the weather is inclement) starting at 4 pm. This will be followed at about 6 pm by a barbecue, courtesy of Robert and Charmian Willis. These social occasions always run more smoothly if you bring some suitable lubrication along. NDOA DinnerWednesday 20th November The dinner at The Woodpecker last November was well attended and proved very successful, with an excellent value-for-money meal in a relaxed social atmosphere. It is planned to hold a similar event this year, provisionally on Wednesday 20th November. The venue has still to be decided and will be announced later. Proposals for a suitable venue will be welcomed. Butterworth |
