The Organ of
St. Mary's, Kintbury
Under Construction 09 March 1999

Extract from a letter written to Jeremy Plummer
by Local organ builder Tony Foster-Waite on 23/02/99

Dear Jeremy
The organ was built around 1920 by J.R. Cousans and Co. of Lincoln. It was built on pneumatic action which was very ponderous. Around 1980 we scraped the pneumatic action and electrified it. The organ did have pistons but the church could not afford to have drawstops with solenoids so the pistons had to be discarded, which was a shame.
When we stripped the organ out, we found a couple of pages of the "Lincolnshire Chronicle" dated 13th June 1931. It has some fascinating advertisements in it with, what seems today to be fairy tale prices. This could be the year that that the organ was installed or it could just have been left there on a tuning visit.
