Ian May has been the organist and Director of Music at St Giles-in-Reading since February 1991. He also directs the Schola Cantorum Sancti Aegidii, a group which spends a week each Summer singing the services at various cathedrals, the most recent venues being Exeter, Bury St Edmunds, St David’s in West Wales, St Patrick’s Dublin and Truro. This year they are singing the services at Ely Cathedral for a week during August. Ian taught music for many years and has been Director of Music in three schools and most recently taught the piano part time at a preparatory school. Ian is a member of the Berkshire Organists Association, the Organ Club and Friends of Cathedral Music. He directs the Cameo Singers, a chamber choir based in Wokingham and the New Elizabethan Singers, a Reading-based ladies’ choir. Both these choirs give a number of concerts a year, mainly in Berkshire and sometimes further afield. The Cameo singers are twinned with choirs in Erfstadt, Germany and Viry in Paris and concert visits are made to both these venues. Ian recently started the Cameo Consort, a companion group to the Cameo Singers. This is a vocal and instrumentals ensemble which gives concerts throughout Berkshire. Later this year they are visiting Gibraltar and southern Spain to give concerts. Ian gives organ concerts including, most recently, Gibraltar Cathedral, Christ the King Gordon Square London and a lunchtime concert at Reading Concert Hall. Later this year he gives recitals at the Minster Church in Reading, St Mary’s Slough and St Giles’ Reading. February 2006 |
