Lunchtime Recitalist
HELEN OXLADE,
LRAM

Modified 01 October 2002

HELEN OXLADE has been a member of several orchestras and ensembles from an early age, participating fully in musical activities throughout her school and university life. She was Head Girl at Kennet School, Thatcham and also House Captain for Music, rehearsing the school choir and organising concerts. She has travelled with various orchestras to Belgium, Norway and New England. Helen has taken part in the National Festival of Music for Youth on a number of occasions at the Royal Festival Hall with county ensembles and has performed at the Royal Albert Hall on more than one occasion.

Whilst at King’s College, London Helen was principal violinist of the university orchestra. She played regularly in a string quartet and also gave a number of local concerts, usually for charity, on a regular basis. Helen has recently purchased an electric violin and is enjoying experimenting with the new functions and genres of music with which it can offer.

Between 1997 and 2000 she taught violin, piano and music theory on a one-to-one basis at Newbury Music School and continues to do this privately. Last summer she spent two weeks working as a volunteer at a Play scheme for autistic children, an experience which taught her much about the problems facing autistic children and the ways in which they respond to music.

In addition to the violin, Helen is an organist and has been regularly playing the organ at Yattendon Church for over five years. Currently Helen is undertaking a PGCE course in Secondary Music at Reading University.
